In our 2005 catalog I wrote the following; “Twenty years ago (now 22 Years) I made the decision to establish a hybrid vegetable seed company supported by private, independent breeders – free to make their own decisions on what they wanted to create with the benefit that creating such diversity would enhance our product line unlike anyone else in the business”.... How true it has proven to be ... Included in our new 2007-2008 catalog is over 65 new varieties – introduced from our accumulation of 15 plant breeders and several contributing companies. DPS has become a magnet for independent plant breeders looking for a specialized market channel to market their creations, worldwide. And who benefits?

Your customers are the real beneficiaries of this innovative program. No matter if they are located in South Africa, South America, Australia, the USA or wherever, DPS has such a diversified program that something fits somewhere. Our job is to find what fits where and tell you about it. We think that sourcing your seed needs from DPS will make your job easier and more profitable. We are expanding our programs across the board. Our new sweet pepper program is now on board and releasing new and exciting varieties. Our Long Day Onion program is building momentum with the introduction of GENERATION X and EVOLUTION, new highly (90%) single centered onions that are demanded by the processors.

Our mini melon and mini squash programs are starting to turn out new, interesting and innovative varieties aimed at two-member families and for kids. DPS is actively breeding varieties with higher nutrition, small size and attractive and unusual shapes and colors to attract children. We believe that creating vegetables that are within a child’s realm of comprehension makes it look good to them, and, give it the flavor that children like, and in it, build enhanced nutrition – this creates strong building blocks for kids and makes our business more important to feeding the worlds’ population.

Our “Lunchbox” sized melons of unusually outstanding taste are now in our catalog for the first time. Our new TASTY BITES melon is a real hit. Our new MINI MUSKETEERS offer a child sized melon with the variation of three different types within the same variety. You get a mix of dinosaur egg sized fruit with three combinations of rind color and flesh color. Ideal for home garden, roadside and specialty growers, the excitement of not knowing what you will get is crowned by the unusually outstanding honeydew taste you receive from these melons. And, they fit in a lunchbox too.

We also thought a little history on the evolution of DPS might be interesting and helpful in the promotion of our company and products.

Duane Palmer, one of the original co-founders of Rio Colorado Seeds, founded D. Palmer Seed Co. in 1985. A number of breeding co-operations have been put together to create an extensive product line for DPS to offer its dealers and thus to growers around the world. DPS offers a wide selection of commercial vegetable seed varieties from breeding programs worldwide.

Onions have always been one of the strengths of DPS. Duane has been involved with onions since 1982. Duane has been marketing onion seeds since that time. Currently DPS has focused on the marketing and distribution of onion seed varieties from private/independent breeders from the US and other countries.

DPS has also been involved in collaborations to improve its range of products and to offer cutting edge varieties through its associations with major breeding programs.
